Common Signs that your Walk-In Refrigerator Needs Repair

Regular maintenance on your walk in is important. It will allow your walk-in cooler or freezer to work properly and last longer. When you catch problems early on, you can decrease the chance of having to make costly emergency repairs. Here are some warning signs to look out for.

Frost Build- Up

Frost build up can mean temperatures within your walk-in are dramatically changing, causing items to melt and then refreeze. Frost build up near an entrance can mean the seal isn’t working properly and warm air is leaking in. Be sure to check the door gaskets for damage. Frost can also mean humidity levels are off and that excess condensation is in your walk-in.

Odd Smells

When there is a coolant leak it is often accompanied by a strange or stale-ish smell. If you notice a weird smell in your walk-in it may mean your coolant is leaking and your condenser is old or malfunctioning.

Fluctuating Temperatures

Temperature fluctuations aren’t good for your inventory. Your walk-in should maintain a nearly constant temperature. Make sure that walk-in doors aren’t being held open for long periods of time. Warm air that enters your walk-in can cause it to work harder than it needs to, to regulate temperatures.

Strange Noises

Strange noises within your walk-in often means your cooler is experiencing mechanical difficulties and needs repair. By calling a service technician immediately and setting up an appointment it can help alleviate an emergency visit.

Water Leaks

Water leaks can lead to mold and mildew growth which requires prompt repairs. Old instillations and damage to seals can cause water leaking problems.

These signs can help you recognize when it’s time to schedule a service call. Alert employees of the different warning signs so that you can make an appointment with a repair center.
